During the Christmas season, it’s easy to get swept up in the hustle and bustle. Between buying presents, coordinating celebrations with family and friends, and finding ways to serve the community, we often get caught up and forget who we’re celebrating and the gravity of His sacrifice. We’ve all felt the relief on December 26, when the presents are opened, family has gone home, and the task list is near nonexistent. Many of us immediately pack up the decorations and throw away the Christmas cards we’ve received in hopes of getting back to the status quo, reducing our stress. Certainly, the stress of this holiday season is even higher for us all because of COVID.
After the intense year we’ve been through, we at Patriot Mobile have decided to buck our natural tendencies to be well organized and put Christmas ‘back in the box’. Instead, we have chosen a nostalgic path and a timeless tradition. Christian tradition tells us our Christmas tree should stay lit until the “Twelfth Night.” Western churches observe the time between December 25 and January 6 as the twelve days of Christmas which is followed by The Feast of Epiphany, also simply called Epiphany, or Theophany, and Three Kings’ Day. The word “epiphany” comes from the Greek word “epiphaneia,” meaning “manifestation.”
Epiphany celebrates the first manifestation of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, when the three wise men brought gifts to baby Jesus, the manifestation of his divinity occurring at his baptism in the Jordan River and at his first miracle, at Cana in Galilee, where he turned water into wine. The feast typically includes special pastries in many countries, and children often receive small gifts in their shoes in honor of the Wise Men’s gifts to the infant Jesus. The holiday also has a number of traditions involving water as a reflection of Jesus’ baptism, including the blessing of houses with holy water.
At Patriot Mobile, we have chosen to follow the “Twelfth Night” tradition. And in addition to our Christmas tree being lit, we will have Christmas messaging continue to run in all our communication channels including website, social platforms, e-mail and advertising – thru January 6th.
